It has a tetrahedral–octahedral–tetrahedral structure, similar to illite and smectite, and inter-layered between these structures is an octahedral sheet composed of cations and hydroxyls. It is generally regarded as a 2:1:1 clay mineral. WebThe chlorite group of minerals derives its name from the common green color of most varieties. The color is known to vary widely in different specimens, however, and to include different shades of green, black, brown, orange, red, pink, purple, blue, yellow, grey, and even white. The morphology is equally diverse.
