Does thorium combine with fluoride

WebJan 31, 2024 · Abstract. The fluorination of thoria (ThO 2) with ammonium bifluoride NH 4 HF 2 to obtain oxygen-free thorium fluoride is reported. It is interesting to note that the fluorination starts right from room temperature to form ammonium thorium fluoride intermediate. On heating, the intermediate decomposes to form pure ThF 4.

Thorium(IV) fluoride (ThF4) is an inorganic chemical compound. It is a white hygroscopic powder which can be produced by reacting thorium with fluorine gas. At temperatures above 500 °C, it reacts with atmospheric moisture to produce ThOF2. WebMar 29, 2024 · It will probably form tritium fluoride (radioactive hydrofluoric acid), which would boil at room temperature. All those vented decay products are automatically tapped off for further processing and possible long-term storage. Anyway, a few years ago on Kirk’s thorium reactor website I suggested a further safety improvement for a LFTR. subwindow c# https://pammiescakes.com
